Solar thermal technology
A solar thermal plant design competitive with solar PV
Market opportunity:
Solar power production
- US$135bn pa investment
- Between 2016-2040, it is expected that 3.7TW of new solar generating capacity will be added representing over US$3 trillion of new investment or an average of US$135bn pa
Industrial waste heat & geothermal
- US$54bn pa
- Concerns about emissions and stricter regulations are driving growth of 9% pa.
Our advantage:
Prototype ready
Technical
A new solar thermal plant design-concept using thermal storage & proprietary technology for:
- polymer solar collectors – beam and diffuse irradiance with 70-85% efficiency
- Thermal Energy Accumulation – overnight storage of thermal energy
- Electrochemical Thermal Converter – thermal to electrical energy at >60 ºC with 65%-75% efficiency
- Mono-polar electrolyser – production of hydrogen for long term storage.
Commercial:
- 24 hour dispatchable power production
- competitive with solar PV
- capital cost <€0.5m/MW
- solar collectors only 10% of plant capital cost
- plant’s annual capacity factor 90% (vs usual 20-45%)
- operational in a wider range of latitudes
- better land use economics (under 0.5HA/MW at 1,000 W/m2)
- modularity supports 5 KW-100 MW plants
- low water usage
